SAVE OUR FAMILIES

Shepherd House will build an academic school for children, incorporating a holistic curriculum that promises to teach children about their creator and how to remain in connection with their creator and will teach them how to create better connections and communities for themselves, their families, and the whole of society.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

1,407 babies are born to teen mothers,
2660 babies are born into poverty
2833 babies are born to unmarried mothers,
6042 children are arrested and 8493 children are reported abused or neglected.

According to recent studies, most people in prisons come from low socio-economic backgrounds and most of the prison population cannot read or write. During the awareness classes that are taught at Shepherd House, many of the young people have stated that the reason they do not work is that they could not fill out an application

STATEMENT OF NEED

To Help Others In Need

Public school systems have a long-standing history of inadequately providing the educational needs of children from non-traditional homes. When our founder, Faith, taught in the Detroit Public Schools system, she discovered that abuse, neglect, and a lack of parental support hindered the youths’ ability to learn. Due to instability, homeless children, fall behind in school, as well - sometimes as many as two to three grade levels. Many seven-year-olds are not enrolled in an educational facility. Many never attend Head Start programs.

There is a vast gap between the educational services they deserve to receive and the services they are currently receiving and the gap must be closed quickly, as these children will continue to walk the path to adulthood, regardless of if we intervene or not. If these problems are not addressed and a workable solution not implemented, the risks of their “falling through the cracks” of society and becoming its “problem” will only increase. The current drop-out rate will grow and we are convinced, as history has shown, that they will more often than not, turn to a life of crime for survival.

THE SITUATION

The “high-pay for low-skills” jobs that were once available through factories are now non-existent.
People who do not finish high school generally do not feel good about themselves. Graduating from high school, only to discover that jobs cannot be secured because of inadequate reading and writing skills, is even more emotionally taxing. As a result, the low self-esteem created by such hardships cause frustration, anxiety, and depression, which lead directly to lives of crime, teenage pregnancies, chemical dependencies, and community destruction.
Our plan is to establish a family residential school that can teach the entire family to become financially stable while loving and respecting themselves and their family. If we can stop the cycle of pain in our communities’ families, we could greatly reduce the need for mental health services and significantly reduce the divorce and crime rate, resulting in fewer jail and prison sentences and more people qualified to help strengthen our economy. It can also reduce the need for drugs to survive and ensure that fewer people will receive public assistance i. e. welfare and SSI etc.
When Faith taught life skill classes in the Shepherd House shelter, she learned that one hundred percent of the women in attendance had been sexually violated in their youth and that on average, and about seventy-five percent of the men had been sexually abused before age 12 and nothing had been done about them being violated. Their innocence was stolen at a young age and their perpetrators created in them never-ending cycles of pain, suffering, and self-destruction because these victims blamed themselves for the abuse.
We will teach them that they were violated and reinforce the truth that they are good, just as the Creator made them. We will also offer and implement in our adult services, the view that such perpetrators tend to be those who do not know how to love, respect, and care for others because in the absence of that wisdom, they can only operate according to what they know. We will offer this view consistently, to help prevent or cease any cycles of hate or anger caused by tragedies such as these.

THE AMANI INSTITUTE

Finally a Plan!!!

Education should be updated to meet the needs of families today. When schools were designed over two hundred years ago, they were designed to meet an entirely different family structure. They were designed for a child-centered family. Today we need schools to meet the needs of both child-centered and dysfunctional families. We need an objective means of evaluating every student. We need an independent organization to test our students. This means instructors will not test. They will only teach. An independent organization will test students.

Today there are many dysfunctional families. Some are caused by sickness or death in the families. Many are caused by chemical abuse. Others have been caused by the structure of society. Some are caused because some people are in so much pain that they cannot forgive and love. It does not matter what manner of pains that have undermined the family of God, this school under the divine guidance of Our Creators will heal the students if they choose to take the gifts of this GOD.

1.STUDENTS WILL LEARN THAT WE ARE THE FAMILY OF THE CREATORS …CALLED BY MANY TITLES AND NAMES.
2. THEY WILL LEARN THAT THERE IS A PURPOSE FOR THEIR LIVES.
3. THEY WILL LEARN NOT ONLY DOES THE CREATORS HELP US BUT ALSO, WE WERE CREATED TO HELP THE CREATORS.
4.THEY WILL LEARN WHAT FATHER GOD SAID TO ME.

“YOU (PEOPLE) ARE LIVING BACKWARD AND UPSIDE DOWN.”.

We will learn to live as God created us to live.
There will be twelve faith communities.

Vision: About
Picture2.png

A curriculum that helps students better understand the workings of the Creator(s) by incorporating the fundamentals of science throughout the lessons that will be offered. At Shepherd House, we believe that children must know how every living thing is connected in order to gain a full understanding of the workings of our Creator. They will learn how they are connected to each other and all of the human families on our planet, to plants and animals, and even to the entire universe we are a part of as our Creator has set into order.
We will teach our students to breed the insects that enhance farming and will demonstrate the role they play in the farming process. We will learn how to raise our own healthy, organic food and herbs. While we are doing this, we will also be learning some basic laws of the Creator that will teach us how to live longer and healthy lives. We will teach that “Laws do not change,” as they are always the same. Our ultimate goal is for our students to develop a genuine love and respect for the earth and all its inhabitants- plants, animals, and other people by knowing how we are all dependent upon one another.

•Life Skills
•Remedial education tutoring
•Assistance in enrolling in trade schools and colleges
•Legal support – record expungement, character validations, alternative sentencing suggestions provided to Wayne and Macomb County courts via Faith and Shepherd House attorneys to encourage that first-time, minor offenders could be dealt with in a way that they were held accountable, but could redeem their selves through various, acceptable activities with the agreement that no criminal record would be created
•Employment Assistance – providing character references for employers
•Parenting Classes – with Faith’s history of introducing the first parenting classes through the Merrill Palmer Program in 1970, her experience in this area is extensive.
•Classes to help build stronger families – lessons on group meditation, mediation sessions between conflicting family members, character-building exercises, chores assigned to each family, etc.
